Which OZNaturals Body Moisturizer is best for me?
OZNaturals has created two body moisturizers which deliver antioxidants and vitamins to nourish the skin and provide a variety of benefits. Our Olive & Jojoba Oil Body Soufflé includes a plethora of antioxidant ingredients, including green tea, olive oil, shea butter and aloe vera. These antioxidants provide protection from damage caused by free radicals and give the skin on your body the same beneficial effects as top facial products. Luxurious hydration is provided by olive oil and jojoba oil which supports the barrier function of dry skin. Pro-Vitamin B5, also known as D-Panthenol, functions as a humectant, attracting moisture into the top layers of the skin. Our Body Soufflé can even be used on the face and neck for very dry skin types.
OZNaturals Sweet Almond and Macadamia Nut Body Butter is the richest formulation of all our moisturizers, and ideal for those who struggle to keep skin moisturized during the winter. Macadamia nut oil nourishes dry, chapped skin with Omega 7 fatty acids. The Vitamins A, B1, B2 and B6 which are found in Sweet Almond oil help soothe even the driest skin.
While they are a superb choice for cold weather conditions, both moisturizers are also great warm weather staples. These products lend a silky sheen and summery glow to the skin – ideal for showing off bare legs and shoulders.
What makes OZNaturals body moisturizers the best?
OZNaturals was founded on the premise of combining the best scientific advances in skin care with a dedication to natural, cruelty-free ingredients. At OZNaturals we are avid animal advocates, and strongly disapprove of testing on animals. It’s unnecessary and, quite frankly, wrong.
The facts about animal testing are upsetting, but important to know if you want to be an informed consumer. According to the Humane Society of the United States, these tests are among the ones commonly performed on mice, rats, rabbits and guinea pigs:
Skin and eye irritation tests where chemicals are rubbed onto the shaved skin or dripped into the eyes of restrained rabbits without any pain relief
Repeated force-feeding studies lasting weeks or months to look for signs of general illness or specific health hazards such as cancer or birth defects; and
Widely condemned "lethal dose" tests, in which animals are forced to swallow large amounts of a test chemical to determine the dose that causes death.
Perhaps most shockingly, at the end of this heinous treatment, the surviving animals are killed, normally by asphyxiation, neck-breaking or decapitation.
The irony is that there are many ways skin care companies can ensure the safety of their products without resorting to animal testing. Socially conscious companies such as OZNaturals are able to create innovative, highly effective products using ingredients which are natural, and have been proven to be safe over many years. Cruelty-free testing methods, such as those developed by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing, continue to provide increasing alternatives for new and less proven product ingredients.
While the US is experiencing some pressure to join the European Union in completely banning the production and sale of cosmetics tested on animals, industry watchers are not optimistic that this will happen anytime soon.
One thing that each and every one of us can do as consumers, however, is to speak with our pocketbooks. Nothing gets the industry’s attention like consumer demand. By choosing skincare products that are not tested on animals you are sending a message to the cosmetics industry as a whole that this practice needs to stop.
You have a choice when purchasing skin care products. Please choose cruelty free.
Why use a natural body moisturizer?
The skin is the body’s largest organ, yet it is often taken for granted. When skin is compromised, however, it can lead to a variety of problems. It’s important that we give it the care it deserves. Because skin can absorb the ingredients that it comes in contact with, and because it covers such a large surface area, it behooves the health conscious consumer to be vigilant about what kinds of ingredients are actually in the products they use to be sure they're using the best natural body moisturizer for their body.
Petroleum-based chemicals are shockingly common in body lotions. You often see them listed as mineral oil or petrolatum. These petrochemicals are readily absorbed by the skin, and once they’re there they never leave. Researchers have found that mineral oil-saturated hydrocarbons stay in the body and accumulate over time. What’s more, there is concern that these ingredients could be carcinogenic. OZNaturals luxurious Body Butter and Body Soufflé use only natural, antioxidant-rich oils and emollients to deeply hydrate and renew skin.
Synthetic fragrances are another hallmark of non-natural body moisturizers. Many of the synthetic fragrances commonly used in cosmetics and skin care products can have as many as 200 ingredients each. Among those may be phthalates, which have been linked to reproductive disorders, asthma, and liver and kidney damage. Since skin care products such as body moisturizers are used every day, and often multiple times a day, the effects of long term exposure to these toxic chemicals becomes a serious issue.
Avoiding the class of preservatives known as parabens is another important reason to use natural body moisturizers. It’s estimated that between 70% and 85% of all skin care and cosmetics on the market contain these chemical preservatives. Because many brands don’t disclose all of their ingredients, you may have no way of knowing they are there. Parabens are known to be xenoestrogens -- that is, they mimic the effects of estrogen in the body. While the scientific community is divided into whether they pose a threat, there is no question that parabens are active ingredients that are absorbed into our skin.
There’s no reason to expose yourself to parabens, phthalates or petrochemicals to find effective skincare products. OZNaturals products are formulated to be gentle, safe and extremely effective. In addition, you can feel good knowing you are doing the right thing for your health and the planet.
As with all OZNaturals products, our Body Soufflé and Body Butter contain no lanolin, mineral oil, alcohol or parabens, and of course are cruelty-free.
The OZNaturals Difference
OZNaturals distinguishes itself from the competition by sourcing the finest natural ingredients and avoiding the inclusion of low cost and low quality ingredients common to so many body moisturizers. Just some of the natural, sustainably sourced ingredients in our body moisturizers include: sweet almond oil, macadamia nut oil, jojoba oil, shea butter, avocado oil, kukui nut oil, sunflower oil, olive oil .
Some eco-conscious consumers have been concerned at the inclusion of palm oil in our Sweet Almond & Macadamia Nut Body Butter and Olive & Jojoba Oil Body Soufflé. We include palm oil for its superior emollient and antioxidant properties, but we use only sustainably sourced ingredients and ensure that our suppliers are certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The RSPO does outstanding work in developing, implementing, verifying and assuring credible global standards for the entire supply chain of sustainable palm oil. We believe using sustainable ingredients is another example of our commitment to producing products that benefit both people and the planet.
Why use a body moisturizer?
The skin on the body tends to have fewer oil glands than that on the face. In fact, oil glands decrease significantly on the lower half of our bodies (which explains why our legs, ankles and feet are often so parched-looking.) Because this skin is naturally more prone to dryness, using a body moisturizer is important. In colder weather, and drying conditions such as air travel, it becomes even more vital. Many of us step up our facial skincare routines with a richer moisturizer under these conditions and we should do the same for the skin on our bodies.
To get the most out of your body moisturizer, apply it liberally after showering or bathing, while your skin is still damp. This allows the humectants and emollients in the moisturizer to trap and seal in moisture for long-lasting protection and comfort.
Just as with facial skincare, you should look for a body moisturizer that includes beneficial ingredients that can go beyond just providing moisture, and actually improve the overall health and look of your skin. Using a high quality body moisturizer will keep it in peak condition every month of the year.
